Three favorite scriptures: blog meme fun!
Monday, May 23, 2011
The fact is, I’m a truly a rookie blogger, and now you know because I was tagged in my first blog meme and I had to google “meme” to figure out what I might be getting myself into. I had no idea this was such a prolific blogging practice until I started paying attention to those buttons, and badges on everyone’s sidebars. Game on …
So here I go:
Amanda, at Little Steps Along The Way, has tagged me in a stimulating—and my first—blog meme. The theme is "Three Favorite Scripture Verses." The rules are:
1. Write a post on your three favorite verses from the Bible and why you like them.
2. Link back to this post.
3. In your post, tag three other bloggers to carry this theme forward, link to you and tag additional bloggers.
I’m tagging:
Kristen @ Three in the nest
Bonnie @ The Koala Bear Writer
Mary @ Three Turkeys
It’s purely coincidental that this is a meme consisting of three scriptures, and two of the three bloggers I tagged have the word “three” in their titles. Too bad Bonnie didn’t have three stuffed koala bears that went everywhere with her when she was a kid! She may have named her blog, The Three Bears—oh, that title is already taken, isn’t it? Anyway … on with the meme.
Number one
Mathew 24:36
No one knows the day or the hour…
Reason: Rapture Humor! I couldn’t help myself … sometimes, we just have to laugh!
Number two
Matthew 7:7-8
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; he who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks the door will be opened.
Reason: I’m a firm believer that I reap what I sow. Sometimes, I find myself trying to reap without sowing—but, that doesn’t usually work out too well. I’ve learned that my actions will come back to me, for good or bad. If I want a relationship with God—like other connections—I must “seek it.” Ask, seek, and knock!
Number three
Numbers 6:24-26
May the LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD let his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace.
Reason: You may not know, but the Hebrew word for peace is shalom. In modern Israel, it’s quite popular, and commonly used as a greeting by just about every Tom, Dick, and Harry! In the Bible, shalom means much more. It refers to safety and security from hardships and threats. It includes inner harmony and balance of life. But, perhaps most of all shalom, means “completeness” or “wholeness.” We often refer to someone being at home in their own skin, or maybe that they have it all together. We could say that person has shalom. It’s being who God intended us to be.
Shalom, friends!

Just checking out the new "Chea" profile to see how it looks.
Holly, I love your verses but most especially Matthew 7:7-8. I used to pray that one as a teenager and it has brought me much hope over the years. So glad you were willing to "play" along since it was also my first meme! And...good to see you posting here again!
Good verses! And, proof that Catholics DO read the Bible! :)
Congratulations on your first meme! I'd say you did a stellar job! I love your rapture humor. Did you happen to see where Harold Camping was "flabbergasted" by the way things turned out?
Someone on a news network website's comments section had me laughing for hours the other day. They wrote: "So it didn't happen like you thought, eh Harold? Don't feel bad... It's not the end of the world." ;~)
Shalom happens to be one of my favorite words. Well, let me rephrase that.. it's one of my favorite sentiments. I'm not sure there's another word in ANY language that expresses so much in so few syllables.
Thanks for sharing this with us! Shalom!

Thanks for your comment on my post! Great choice of verses! My college choir ended every concert w/ a song based on Numbers 6:24-26...always brought tears to my eyes (which does make singing a bit difficult!)
Good scriptures to share, Holly. I'm glad you also chose to share with us on Spiritual Sundays. I fixed the link so it comes to this post.
Blessings,
Charlotte
BTW If you're a rookie blogger it sure doesn't show.
Charlotte ~ you're very kind! I admit to being a quick study ... but there is so much to learn and know about the world of blogging, I fear I'll always be a newbie! Now, you and Ginger have it going on over there at Spiritual Sundays. Me? I'm just plugging along!;-D
Hey - I'm a bit behind with blogging, but thanks for tagging me! I'll post my "meme" this Wednesday. I love the idea of a Scripture meme. :) Thanks!
Bonnie@Koala Bear Writer~ No worries! I took two months off recently—how did that happen? All of a sudden I woke up one morning and thought ... that was quite a ride! Life takes over sometimes and it’s all we can do to hang on.
May I just post this here? While my brain is wired and I am having a small respite from the dear ones? And it would take me twenty minutes to figure out how to do the "meme?"
"From everyone who is given much, much will be required" Luke 12:48
Because I woke up one day feeling like life was becoming oppressive with several small children and wondering if I was up to the challenge the next ten years would present. Ah. I thought, I have been given much, better tighten my belt and get on with it.
"And behold, I am with you, until the end of the age." Matthew 12:20 see above for explanation.
"Take these things hence." John 2:16 I think its fun to quote scripture at my kids to get them to do stuff.
Nice blog! Glad I stumbled across it. PM
Psalm 119:160 - "The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will stand forever."
In other words—you are so right about memes! It’s a complicated business meme(ing). ~I think I just made that word up.~ But, something tells me that you’d make up the time pretty quickly once you got to the scripture part! ;-D
Nice to meet you…
